A Splendid Possibly American Revolutionary Period Gilt Bronze Mounted Naval Dirk. 

8 and 1/2 inch double edged blade frost etched for three quarters of its length with strap work and trophies of arms. Gilt cross guard, The waisted gilded grip finely engraved with foliage and a lion’s head on each side.

Gilt mounted leather scabbard with locket and middle mount cast and chased in relief with stemmed flower. Chape engraved with leafy foliage. Condition of blade with some rust staining but most etching is clear. Crossguard and hilt with 95% bright original fire gilding. Scabbard mounts with 95% original bright fire gilding. Leather is tender but original.

This is one of the most beautiful naval dirks we have seen for sale. 12 inches overall and a really handsome example of this desirable naval weapon from the Age of Fighting Sail.
