An Extremely Rare (1 of 100) Sharps & Hankins Model 1861 Civilian Navy Rifle.

32 and 3/4 inch barrel serial number 310. 52 rimfire breechloading. Only 700 made. The U.S. Navy purchased 600 for Marine guards aboard ship and some used on Mississippi River gunboats. Only 100 were sold on the civilian market making this one of the rarest Civil War period shoulder arms.

Barrel is deep even age brown with no pitting Frame is mottled with good markings. “SHARPS PATENT 1859: on left of frame. Right side stamped “SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADELA”. Walnut full fore-end with much of what appears to be period varnish. Walnut buttstock with marks but much period varnish.

Mechanically excellent with both half and full cock. Bore is very good with crisp rifling. This gun is scarcer than a Colt Walker and a must for any Sharps collector or Civil War long gun fancier.
