A Fine German Flintlock Jaeger Rifle By The Famous Maker CASPAR ZELLNER Salzburg and Wein (1661-1745) Circa 1725.

25 inch swamped octagonal blued barrel. 50 caliber deeply rifled bore. The barrel with gold inlaid reserve and maker’s signature “CASPAR ZELLNER”. The breech gold inlaid with scrolls. Chiseled rear sight and silver partridge for-sight. Plain banana shaped convex lock with unbridled frizzen and swan neck cock. Well formed brass furniture with sideuplate, finger-rest triggerguard, fluted ramrod pipes and heavy jaeger stye brass buttplate.

Finely figured walnut full-stock with exquisitely carved relief shell decoration and relief rocaille’s throughout. The figure in the wood is something to see. Incredible! Steel sling attachments. Steel ramrod likely an addition.

Condition overall rates fine with bright polished lock and blue on barrel. Original sliding wood patchbox. Action is excellent and double set triggers function flawlessly. Bore is excellent. A great German jaeger by one of Germany’s most famous gunmakers of the flintlock era.
