A Scarce And Highly Collectible 6 Inch Colt Baby Dragoon Serial Number 3988 For 1848.

6 inch octagonal barrel, 31 caliber. 5 shot cylinder. All Baby Dragoons are scarce with a total production of 15,000 as opposed to the 1840 Pocket Model with over 340,000 made.

With its characteristic square back triggerguard, low serial numbers, Ranger and Indian cylinder scene, no loading lever and oval stop slots, Baby Dragoons are a must have for any Colt or early percussion revolver collector.

Serial number 3988 has a nice chocolate brown patina on the barrel with clear “Address Sam’l Colt New York City” two line address. Cylinder scene is 90% visible with crisp “COLT” and cylinder number 3988. Numbers match except for wedge which fits well and is unnumbered. Bore is good and action is crisp. Walnut grips are worn but fit well. Frame has old recoloring but has good “Colt’s Patent” markings.

The 6 inch barrel Baby Dragoon is the most elegant and desirable variation of which 3988 is a good example.
