Very Fine And Early Civil War Period Smith & Wesson No. 2 Old Model Revolver Serial Number 6452

According to the legendary Norm Flayderman “Specimens with serial numbers under 37531 will bring a small premium because of possible Civil War usage.” This was a very popular personal weapon with both enlisted men and officers. The cartridges were waterproof and dependable.

To find a 4 digit example with most of its original finish is a collector’s challenge. Serial number 6452 retains 85% bright thinning blue on the barrel and 70% on the frame. The cylinder finish has mostly drifted to a mixture of blue with even age brown. The hammer retains some darkening casehardening. The rosewood grips have 90% original piano varnish.

The action is crisp and the bore is fair with some erosion. The barrel screw slot shows damage. All other screws have never seen a screwdriver. The barrel is slightly loose on the frame as is usual with the S&W bottom break revolvers.

This is an unusually fine example of this model and most importantly a four digit example.
