A Handsome Percussion ‘Kentucky’ Rifle With Tiger Stripe Maple Fullstock And Signed In Full “Daniel Smith” (Daniel Smith, Sandusky, Ohio 1777-1860). 41 and 5/8th inch octagonal barrel. 34 caliber. 

The heavy barrel signed in beautiful elegant script in rectangular reserve “Daniel Smith”. Large silver fore-sight and iron buckhorn rear sight. Barrel in fine condition with smooth chocolate brown and crisp markings. Heavy pitting at breech from firing. Drum type percussion bolster with clean out screw. Bolted front action lock with sparse engraving at tail. Plain hammer with damage to nozzle. Beautifully engraved pierced stylized bird head brass patchbox. Brass finger rest triggerguard. Double set triggers.

The tiger striped maple full stock is 1830’s Americana at its very best with superb patination and incredible figure. The cheekpiece inlaid with a silver star and large silver scroll in butt. Silver teardrop behind lock and silver thumb piece. Forestock inlaid with silver wedge escutcheons and two silver swirls. Brass forend cap. Three well turned ramrod ferrules. Action is sticky but holds well on full cock. Stock condition is excellent. 56 inches overall. Deeply rifled bore bore is fine.

This is a very handsome Ohio “Kentucky” by a well known Ohio maker and will please anyone who wants a good Ohio gun to add to his or her collection.
