A Fine And Rare Late 17th Century Long Dutch Over Under (Wender) Holster Pistol Circa 1690. 

12 and 7/8th inch sighted, round three stage barrels. 54 caliber. One barrel struck with makers mark at breech the other with a city proof possibly Utrecht. Separate pans with finely shaped frizzens engraved with classic Dutch vines and flowers. The convex lock engraved with vines and flowers ensuite with pans. Plain swan neck cock Plain steel triggerguard pierced with steel arm for turning. Elegant shaped and pierced steel sideplate terminating in a dragon’s head. Long, elegant spurred steel buttcap.

Walnut barrel panels raised carved. Turned steel ramrod pipes. Walnut butt with raised carving. Condition overall rated fine for a holster pistol of this early period with clear steel engraving and no significant pitting. The wood panels and butt in fine condition with beautiful hand worn patina. Wender mechanism is stiff and tight. Action is good on both full and half cock. Most turn over flintlocks are loose and rattle. This one is tight and right.

The form is classic late 17th century and this big boy is 21 and 1/2 inches overall. Bores are fair. A rare Dutch flintlock certain to please the advanced collector of Dutch flintlocks or any lover of early pistols.
