A Very Handsome Full Silver Mounted Ottoman Shamshir Circa 1800 With Superb Gold Decorated Fine Damascus Blade In Silver Mounted Scabbard.
The 30 inch deeply curved blade is 1 and 1/4 inches width at forte. The blade with very fine wootz Damascus pattern with gold Damascened inlaid panels on both sides at hilt and gold maker’s cartouche on right side. Engraved silver cross guard. Silver banded horn grip scales with finger grooves. Full silver mounted scabbard with silver carrying rings engraving ensuite with cross guard. Leather section held by silver chain.
Condition of this lovely blade is very fine with minor loss to gold inlay, excellent wootz pattern, only very minor pitting at extreme point. Hilt is excellent overall. Scabbard with minor tearing to original leather and the usual minor marks to the 19 inch long silver shape. A full 38 inches overall.
This is a very fine Ottoman shamshir and is all original and entirely homogenous of the period. Silver shamshir's are nearly impossible to obtain outside English salesrooms.
