A Good Sharps Model 1863 Percussion Saddle Ring Carbine Without Patchbox Serial Number C 20584. 22 inch barrel, .52 caliber.
40,000 manufactured and many converted to cartridge. This is the classic Civil War period Sharps saddle ring carbine. The barrel with blue fading to brown retains 10% blue towards muzzle. The lock and action with sharp markings has an untouched look with no pitting. Action is tight and crisp.
Figured walnut buttstock with light over varnish and only a few minor marks and one larger dent on right side. Walnut fore-end with over varnish and some medium dents and one small loss on right two inches forward of frame. Military inspector’s cartouche faintly visible above saddle bar. “GW?”.
Six groove rifled bore is excellent. Robbins and Lawrence primer is intact. Ring missing from saddle bar. Buttstock with a patch of undersized wood 1 inch by 3/16th.
This is a very decent Civil War Sharps carbine and becoming increasingly hard to find.
