A Good Percussion “Kentucky” Long Rifle With Silver Inlay And Unique Double Brass Patchboxes Circa 1840.

38 inch barrel. 32 caliber. The heavy octagonal barrel with German silver blade foresight and buckhorn rear sight.

Barrel signed in script “G N” unknown maker. Barrel with minor flash pitting at breech. Drum type percussion nipple. Stock burned away from firing. Single screw bolted lock with sparse engraving, hammer engraved ensuite both heavily patinated. Brass triggerguard elegantly configured with finger-rests, Large pierced brass patchbox on right of butt. Small brass patchbox likely for tallow inset into raised cheekpiece. Silver crescent moon inlaid into butt behind cheekpiece. Vacant silver thumb piece.

Figured Tiger Stripe maple full stock inlaid with silver hearts and circles. Fore-end inlaid with further silver hearts and lozenges framing barrel pins. Brass muzzle cap and three brass thimbles. Stock with damage around lock as previously noted. A 12 and 1/2 inch strip approximately 1/4 inch wide missing on left side of fore-end under rear sight. Set trigger works as does action when rear trigger is set and hammer is cocked. Deeply rifled bore is good. 54 and 1/2 inches overall.

A great “Kentucky” for over the fireplace or on the gunroom wall as the wood has real pronounced tiger striping.
