A Fine All Silver Mounted Arabic Shamshir Possibly Syrian 19th Century Circa 1845.
32 and 3/4 inch blade cut with three long fullers. 1 and 5/8th inches wide at forte. European blade engraved on both sides with “SHHSHH”. Persian style silver crossguard engraved with foliage. The Persian style hilt of silver engraved ensuite with the crossgaurd and inset with a red coral on each side.
Heavy repousse cast and chased full silver scabbard decorated with relief blossoms amid Arabesques. The silver hanger mounts engraved ensuite with the cross guard and hilt. Condition of blade and mounts is fine.
A most impressive 38 and 1/2 inches overall in scabbard this shamshir is a real eye catcher and will please any afficionado of Islamic edged weapons.
