Civil War Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver

Stock No:000596

A Civil War Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver Serial Number 21802. 44 caliber. 7 inch barrel. Standard barrel length for this model is 8 inches. Serial number 21802 has a 7 inch barrel that is period shortened by a master gunsmith possibly on the frontier after it left United States Union Army service. Barrel markings are clear but stamped at an angle as are most of these primary U.S. martial revolvers. The front sight appears to be the original that has been period reset when the barrel was shortened. The revolver has the usual Army military inspectors letter stamps as well as strong traces of inspector’s stamps on the right and left grip panels. The condition of the metal is a deep even age brown with faint hints of blue. The cylinder has matching patina and a recent bright tracking line. Walnut grips are hand worn but inspector’s cartouches are visible. A few minor chips at butt mostly on left panel. Bore is fair with strong lands and grooves in need of a cleaning. Action is crisp and cylinder locks up tight. This is a very interesting martial Remington that doubtless served in the Civil War and probably afterward on the frontier.
