A Rare And Desirable Polish Cavalry Saber Of Grand Duke Frederick Augustus’ King Of Saxony And De Facto King Of Poland From 1812-1813.

31 and 3/4 inch saber blade with long wide fuller and long narrow fuller near spine. Clip point.

The left fuller engraved with a mounted Polish cavalryman in uniform with sword raised aloft below the motto “VAROOZ” referring to the longed for reconstitution of the independent Polish nation.

The right with trophy of arms and large monarch’s crown over “AR” entwined for Grand Duke Frederick Agustus known as “The Just”. Blade with some corrosion but clear and fine engraving.

The dark patinated copper D guard hilt with langets in traditional Polish style and Polish pommel. Wood grip is original with leather covering (sections missing) bound with copper wire. Incredibly the saber has its original leather scabbard with original chape and locket. The leather with damage and age though basically intact.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a genuine (rather than fake as most Polish Napoleonic and earlier sabers are) in fine battle carried condition with the cipher of a renowned though uncrowned Polish king and nationally revered figure.
