A Fine And Desirable Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver Serial Number 94901 For 1860.

7 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. .36 caliber.

This is a superior civilian example in a most interesting serial range. 94140 is a factory engraved example cased with shoulder stock illustrated on page 88 of Colt Engraving.

94901 is in fine overall condition. The barrel retains 40% muted fading blue but the missing blue is flaked and not worn, The matching lever exhibits much faded casehardening. The cylinder has all the Ormsby engraved scene with flaked blue brown patina and no appreciable wear. Matching wedge is not battered as all too many are. The cylinder nipples are crisp and even more desirable retain 5 of the safety pins. Arbor with matching number. The bore has some roughness but sharp lands and grooves.

The frame retains faded mousy gray casehardening with no wear and sharp markings. The backstrap and triggerguard have 95% thick original silver. The beautiful walnut grip shows 96% original glossy varnish with one repaired toe.  The action is as crisp as a second generation Colt.

Altogether a really fine 1851 Navy in a most interesting serial range. All matching number Colts are difficult to find.
