A Very Fine Traditionally Forged And Tempered WWII Imperial Japanese Army Samurai Sword Katana By Moritoshi Aki Province Circa 1939.
26 inch cutting edge. Moritoshi is well pictured on page number 119 of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths. Medium to High Grade Gendaito. “First Seat at 1941 Exhibition”.
Temper is a complex suguha midare, likely a copy of a Koto treasure. Itame hada with strong kinsuji. Ubu nakago with finely cut yoko yasurimei and signature Moritoshi Saku (made this). Blade is in almost full old polish with all details clear and no kizu, shintetsu, or shingane. The nakago is pristine with no corrosion.
Mounts are excellent throughout. Tsuka in excellent condition with silver family mon on military kashira. Saya with nearly all its original paint and one minor door pinch. This is a first rate handmade Japanese samurai sword by a famous sword maker.
