A Fine Type 3 U.S. Model 1816 Contract Musket By A. Waters Dated 1836.
42 inch barrel. .69 caliber. 21,650 produced. Lockplate marked “US/A WATERS” in center and “U.S, 1836” stamped vertically behind the hammer. Barrel in “arsenal bright” with inspectors stamp on left of breech and “NWP” (Nathan W. Patch). Breech tang dated 1834. Buttplate stamped “U.S.” Lockplate with some light corrosion, frizzen re-shod.
Walnut fullstock with fine legible inspector’s cartouche on left side opposite lock and further inspector’s cartouche on comb of butt near buttplate.
This primary U.S. musket presents as in excellent original condition although it is in fact a very accomplished reconversion to flint. Altogether a most attractive example of an 1816.
