An Extremely Rare, Unusual And Attractive Indo-Persian Sosunpata Sword With Gold Damascened Bird Head Hilt In Its Original Finely Pierced Original Steel And Gold Decorated Scabbard Circa 1850.
27 and 5/16th inch blade. 1 and 7/16th inches wide at forte. The blade with three panels of narrow fullers surmounted by gold Damascened flourishes (worn). Blade is beautifully Damascus patterned. The classic bird head hilt retains 90% of its original gold Damascening with expected carrying wear.
The scabbard covered with red velvet (renewed) had a nine inch very finely pierced locket in a foliate pattern inhabited by gold Damascened birds. The nine inch chape is pierced and gold Damascened birds ensuite with the locket.
This is a visually spectacular sosunpata showing excellent quality and fine condition throughout. 32 and 1/2 inches overall and an Indo Persian sword that is unique and beautiful.
