A Large Rare And Highly Sought After Genuine Igorot Head Axe Northern Type Babelasan (See Stones Glossary Figure 164 #4 page 288) Circa 1890.
The beautifully shaped head is 15 and 3/8th inches from spike to spike. 27 and 3/4 inches long.
The head and shaft mounted on an antique haft which is finely fluted. The iron with interesting pattern and no pitting. This is the real thing and not some tourist piece. The quality is fine as is the overall condition. For the advanced collector of ethnic weapons or the true aficionado of Philippine weapons.
The Igorot are the indigenous people of the Cordillera Mountain Range of Northern Luzon and authentic Igorot head axes are rarely offered for sale.
