One Of The Finest So Called Walloon Military Broadswords We Have Ever Seen German Or Dutch Circa 1650. 

35 and 1/2 inch long blade with short single fuller. The large heavy blade measures 1 and 1/2 inches wide at forte. Blade engraved on both sides with the justly famed running wolf of Solingen. One fuller struck with the letters “S A G A G U N” for SAHAGUM another famous blade inscription. The other side with letters “S A E A G U N”. The forte deeply stick with a crown over “P” and the other side with a crown over “P” within a lozenge.

Classic steel Walloon D-Guard with elaborately and unusually fine piercing comprising stars and circles. Bulbous onion shaped steel pommel. Very fine and original wire wrapped wood grip retaining its original high quality “Turk’s Head”. The recurved quillion struck with a 4 leaf clover mark. The Walloon was carried by troops throughout Northern Europe and Scandinavia.

The condition is excellent throughout with a pleasing steel color and no real pitting or serious wear. This lovely sword is entirely homogenous and as it was in the middle of the 17th century. A truly superior example which balances perfectly and was made for a very discerning offices who demanded the best fighting sword available. 42 and 1/2 inches overall.
